From July 25 to 26, 2025, the 6th National Stud Bull Auction and West China Cattle Promotion Achievement Conference was grandly held in Wulagai, Inner Mongolia. The latest progress and achievements were announced from aspects such as the breeding history of West China Cattle, the national promotion effect, the construction of technical systems, policy support, and future promotion measures. More than 150 people attended the conference, including relevant leaders from government agricultural departments across the country, experts from universities and research institutes, representatives of breeding enterprises, cattle breeders, and media representatives, who all witnessed this historic moment.
At the conference, Li Junya, researcher at the Institute of Animal Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and chief scientist of the National Beef Cattle and Yak Industry Technology System, reviewed the breeding history of West China Cattle. Currently, adult bulls of West China Cattle weigh up to 936 kg, while cows exceed 574 kg. The average daily gain during the fattening period reaches 1.36 kg, with a dressing percentage of 62.4% and a net meat percentage of 53.9%. Compared with international beef cattle breeds of the same type, these indicators have all reached the international advanced level. Since 2022, the breeding population of West China Cattle has continued to expand, covering 13 major beef cattle-producing provinces and regions, with a population scale of 26,500 heads, making it the largest single beef cattle breed breeding population in China. Today, West China Cattle is no longer just a type of beef cattle, but a culmination of independent innovation in China's beef cattle seed industry system. From the perspective of seed source security, the core dependence has dropped from 70% to 51%, which has strengthened the foundation of national meat security.
With the theme of "High-Quality Seed Sources Lay the Foundation, Beef Cattle Industry Opens a New Chapter", this auction attracted the participation of 23 core beef cattle breeding farms, stud bull farms, and breeding cooperatives, which collectively selected and submitted 73 high-quality stud bulls for bidding. In the end, 62 stud bulls were sold at the auction, with a total auction turnover reaching 16.715 million yuan. Among them, 49 were West China Cattle, generating an auction revenue of 13.675 million yuan. The "top-priced bull" of this auction was a West China stud bull from Inner Mongolia Bulin West China Cattle Seed Industry Co., Ltd., which was sold at a price of 480,000 yuan.
